Who Is a Veteran

A Veteran is anyone who has served — or is currently serving — in the Australian Defence Force.

From the moment you enlisted, you accepted that you could be called upon at any time to serve in a war zone. That decision alone required courage, commitment, and a willingness to put Australia before yourself. For that, we salute you.

No matter where you served — overseas or on the home front — Australians respect and value you for protecting our country and our way of life.

We honour:

• Those who served in war zones, facing the dangers and demands of operational service.
• Those who served on the home front, providing the essential support that enabled others to deploy.
• Those who volunteered, choosing a life of service.
• Those who were conscripted, who put aside their profession, trade, and family life when their country called.

Every form of service matters. Every Veteran’s story is respected.

Whatever your experience in the ADF — good, difficult, or somewhere in between — the most important fact is this: Iluka/Woombah Veterans are here for you.

You should be proud that you served. You have earned the right to march on ANZAC Day — whether you have many medals, one medal, or none; whether you served overseas or not.
